Analyte groups

An analyte group is a label on an analyte name so you can filter the list. The catalog is View → Analyte groups in the method editor. An analyte name may belong to several groups. The names are shown on the analyte as its groups.

This is not a limit group and it is not a sum group.

What it drives

The navigator can filter analytes by these groups. Reports can list the names with Q.AnalyteGroups() and test Analyte.Groups. See Array functions.

An analyte group does not sum concentrations, does not assign an ISTD, and does not attach a limit or a dose. Those are separate:

  • Sum group — at most one per analyte name (View → Sum groups). It is the bucket used when a total is reported for several analyte names. Q.SumGroups() lists them.
  • Limit group — limits for a sample, not a tag on the analyte. See Limit groups.
  • ISTD — the quant’s link to an ISTD quant, plus the analyte type.
  • Dose — the level concentration on the analyte. See Doses.

How it differs from a limit group

A limit group holds numbers (recovery, concentration, R²) and is chosen on the sample. An analyte group holds no limits. Putting an analyte in a group called “Pesticides” does not change its flags. Putting a sample in a limit group called “Drinking water” does.

Rename or delete an analyte group and the memberships on the analyte names follow the catalog.
