Report templates

A report template is a workbook attached to the method. View → Report opens it. The toolbar is labeled Report. The Workbook list chooses which workbook to run. If the batch has not been saved, the caption says to save the batch first.

Templates are stored in the method package (ReportTemplates workbooks, .xlsx) and the batch uses that workbook when you run the report.

What a template controls

The sheets, the fields they read, the charts, and the defined report, export, and import actions. Built-in insert commands include Sample Review and Key Review. Those are sheet layouts you insert. They are not separate file types.

Choosing, editing, and designing

Pick the workbook in the Workbook list.

  • Run defined import reads the Excel file named by the import definition.
  • Run defined report generates the defined report.
  • Run defined export writes the defined export.
  • Design Report opens the report designer.

In the designer, the Quanto ribbon has:

  • Workbooks — Save as, Manage.
  • Report — Report (generate the defined report), Define (sheets and output), Test → PDF sheet or Excel sheet.
  • Export — Export, Define.
  • Import — Import, Define.
  • Insert — Batch (Header, Table), Sample (Review, Header, Analytes, Chroms, Curves), Analyte (Header, Table, Chroms). Sheets: Add sheet, Import sheets, Reports → Key Review.

Define dialogs ask for a Report folder, an Export folder, or an Import Excel file.

How a report is generated

Definitions can target:

  • Batch — one report for the batch.
  • Sample — one output per sample. The file name follows the sample. Save the batch before you rely on paths.
  • Compound — per analyte.
  • SmpKey — one output per sample key, using the chosen result in that key. See Sample keys.

Test writes a PDF sheet or an Excel sheet of the sheet you are designing, without running the full batch definition.

Per-sample review of peaks is the Samples and Results views, not the report designer. See Sample review. Per-analyte curves and chromatograms are in Analyte review.

Fields, bands, and charts

Formulas use Q. functions. The current sample, compound, and sample key are Q.CurrentSample, Q.CurrentCompound, and Q.CurrentSmpKey. Field paths look like Result.FConc and Peak.Area. See Names in report formulas and Array functions.

Charts in a cell:

  • Q.VSample — sample TIC.
  • Q.VCompound — compound chromatogram. Pass TRUE to show the original integration.
  • Q.VCalibration — calibration curve for that sample and compound.
  • Q.VQualifier — qualifier overlay. Overlay 0 is the quant signal, 1 is all qualifiers, 2 and above are one qualifier.

Pictures are baked in when the report is exported. Interactive zoom exists while you design; the exported file holds the picture.

Conditional formatting for flags is ordinary workbook formatting on the flag fields (Result flags and Outliers), plus the hide formulas Hide if error, Hide if blank, Hide if false, and Show if true. Put HIDE in cell A1 to enable row and column hiding. See LAMBDA in reports.

Output formats

Defined reports can write Excel and PDF, for Batch, Sample, Compound, and SmpKey, each with an optional print flag.

Defined exports can write Excel and TSV, for Batch and Sample.

There is no Word or HTML report export. CSV is not a report format; TSV is the text export. An import reads an Excel file into the defined import.

Printing uses the print flag on the report definition when you generate the report.
